Hardcastle Crags, September 2016 Set 2
Hardcastle Crags is a popular beauty spot to the north of Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Currently attracting over 100 thousand visitors per year, the crags reached it's most popular during the Edwardian era when on a couple of occasions they had over 8000 visitors in 1 day. The valley upon which Hardcastle Crags stand is split by Hebden Water which flows on through the town of Hebden Bridge in to the River Calder. The stream offers a number of picturesque spots where it can be crossed or just viewed from the embankment.
Gibson Mill can be found alongside Hebden Water in the Crags, a cotton spinning mill originally built at the turn of the 19th century, the Grade II listed mill and outbuilding still stand to day, now offering a tea room and regular exhibitions. Hardcastle Crags has seen off several attempts to dam it and is now managed by the National Trust. It sometimes referred to locally as Hebden Dale.
